The worst manifestation in our country of gender discrimination is female foeticide. Unfortunately, female foeticide is committed not only by the illiterate and the impoverished, it is being committed in cities and among the educated and well-to-do. It is shocking that there are higher incidents of female foeticide in the more developed districts and regions of our country. Society has to be made aware that a girl child is a boon and a gift.”Hon'ble President of India, Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil, at the 17th convocation of Mother Teresa Women's University

Inaugurating a function “Kanyabhrun Hatya Ke Khilaf Sarvdharm Maha Abhiyan Samaroh” organized by National Integration Committee the Vice President of India Mohd. Hamid Ansari called upon the people to change their attitude towards female child and reiterated that the age long problem of female foeticide should be rooted out completely from our society as it is a curse.

The unacceptable crime of female foeticide, being encouraged by the widespread misuse of modern technology and its mindless commercial exploitation must be stopped. We should come forward to put an end to this Misuse of medical technology. “You will agree that law alone will not be able to solve the problem and each one of us has to play our role to curb this practice – as parents, family members, siblings and friends. And as professionals whether teachers, doctor, lawyers, judges, administrators, law enforcement personnel, elected representative, journalist, writers, artist all of us have to work together to create a gender balanced society.”-Minister of State Of Health and Family Welfare, Smt. Panabakka Lakshmi

Shabana Azmi,- In a recent article in Hindustan Times. What then will the structure of society be with a paucity of women? What will the consequences be for the family and community, and what of the institution of marriage? Imagine the plight of women forced into polyandrous marriages. I shudder when I think of how much more vulnerable a woman would be to sexually transmitted diseases and HIV/AIDS. What of the increase in violence against women? One can only conjecture, but the possible scenarios are frightening.
